Remains - Hellish Form (2021)
Remains è l'album di debutto per gli Hellish Form, un duo che curiosamente ha origini statunitensi ma diametralmente opposte a livello geografico (uno viene dal Vermont, l'altro dalla California), dopo un demo e un singolo. Jacob Lee (voce, chitarra, basso) e Willow Ryan (voce, chitarra, synths) si autodefiniscono funeral drone sludge, e in effetti costruiscono un album dove il doom è effettivamente funereo (l'iconografia della copertina è chiarissima), il suono è sludge, e l'atmosfera drone è comunque piegata ad una forma canzone espansa ma abbastanza comprensibile. Li ho scoperti solamente perché me li ha segnalati Spotify, e debbo ammettere che ho ascoltato con piacere questo album.
Remains is the debut album for Hellish Form, a duo that curiously has American origins but diametrically opposed geographically (one comes from Vermont, the other from California), after a demo and a single. Jacob Lee (vocals, guitar, bass) and Willow Ryan (vocals, guitar, synths) define themselves funeral drone sludge, and indeed they build an album where the doom is actually funereal (the cover iconography is also crystal clear), the sound is sludge, and the drone mood is still bent to an expanded but quite understandable song form. I only discovered them because Spotify pointed them to me, and I must admit that I enjoyed listening to this album.
