Crawler - Idles (2021)

Spesso siamo fin troppo esigenti e tranchant con le band che meritano davvero. Non nego che sia io che alcuni dei miei amici, quelli con i quali condivido gran parte dei miei gusti musicali, siamo stati fin troppo critici con il precedente Ultra Mono; critiche che probabilmente, in qualche modo sono arrivate ai ragazzi di Bristol, perché stavolta c'è un cambio di rotta innegabile. Sono lontani gli Idles di Danny Nedelko, qua, come fa notare correttamente Kerrang, siamo molto più vicini al nichilismo dei Bahuaus, naturalmente in salsa Idles: Crawl! e The End ne sono, a mio giudizio, l'esempio più fulgido. A livello di liriche, fortunatamente direi, ci sono ancora tutti gli elementi che ce li hanno fatto amare, e c'è molta analisi sulla dipendenza (che, viene da chiederselo, evidentemente almeno Talbot conosce da vicino). Qualcuno fa notare che se con i primi tre album, gli Idles hanno ammonito il pubblico a modificare i propri comportamenti sbagliati, qua comincino ad autoanalizzarsi, e a tentare di correggere i loro. A livello musicale senza dubbio la loro musica si incupisce, ed è con quegli episodi, che questo disco "vince" ed ipnotizza. Avanti per quella strada ragazzi.

We are often too demanding and tranchant with the bands that really deserve. I do not deny that both me and some of my friends, the ones with whom I share most of my musical tastes, have been too critical with the previous Ultra Mono; criticism that probably somehow reached the boys from Bristol, because this time there is an undeniable change of course. Danny Nedelko's Idles are far away, here, as Kerrang correctly points out, we are much closer to the nihilism of the Bahuaus, naturally in Idles sauce: Crawl! and The End are, in my opinion, the most shining example. At the level of lyrics, fortunately I would say, there are still all the elements that made us love them, and there is a lot of analysis on addiction (which, one wonders, evidently at least Talbot knows closely). Someone points out that if with the first three albums, the Idles have admonished the public to change their wrong behaviors, here they begin to self-analyze, and to try to correct theirs. On a musical level, their music undoubtedly darkens, and it is with those episodes that this record "wins" and hypnotizes. Guys, let's go further on that road.
