Pain to Power - Maruja (2025)

Mentre la maggioranza degli appassionati di musica (o presunti tali) si eccitano per il ritorno della famosa band di Manchester (Oasis), e/o si accapigliano per un'altra band britannica che pare aver inventato la procedura più complicata attualmente esistente per l'acquisto di biglietti (Radiohead), noi (io e il mio ego) preferiamo andare alla ricerca, nel sottobosco, di cose fresche. I Maruja (segnalati da Vic e Beach) sono di Manchester, hanno un nome spagnolo (l'insegna di un negozio che il cantante e chitarrista Harry Wilkinson vide durante una vacanza di famiglia in terra iberica), e frullano post-rock, jazz, noise, metal, hip-hop. Potete "sentirci" Fever 333 e Kneecap quando rappano, i The Armed quando aggrediscono, gli Spidergawd per l'uso del sax (o addirittura quei rari brani dei Soundgarden quando hanno sperimentato in proposito). Creano delle situazioni musicali stranianti, e di conseguenza, molto interessanti. Sicuramente uno dei debutti del 2025.

While most music fans (or so-called music fans) are getting excited about the return of the famous Manchester band (Oasis) and/or bickering over another British band that seems to have invented the most complicated ticket-buying process in existence (Radiohead), we (my ego and I) prefer to search the undergrowth for fresh, unreleased material. Maruja (recommended by a couple of friends) are from Manchester, have a Spanish name (a shop sign singer and guitarist Harry Wilkinson saw during a family vacation there), and blend post-rock, jazz, noise, metal, and hip-hop. You can hear Fever 333 and Kneecap when they rap, The Armed when they attack, Spidergawd when they use saxophone (or even those rare Soundgarden tracks when they experimented with it). They create unsettling, and consequently very interesting, musical situations. Definitely one of the debuts of 2025.
