Il decimo album dei Deftones ci ricorda che loro non solo, non se ne sono mai andati, ma continuano ad essere tra le migliori metal band esistenti. E probabilmente, restringere la loro descrizione a "metal", è pure limitante. Fin dai loro inizi, quando erano incasellati dentro il recinto del nu metal, erano delle mosche bianche. Adesso che teoricamente, quel genere non esiste più, loro rimangono fedeli ad un suono e ad un modo di scrivere canzoni totalmente libero, e bellissimo. Tutto l'album è costellato di tracce intense, melodie favolose, richiami alla migliore new wave, ritmiche metal ricercatissime e potenti, con un suono favoloso. Soprattutto la seconda parte, contiene passaggi mozzafiato. Uno dei dischi dell'anno.
Deftones' tenth album reminds us that not only have they never gone away, but they continue to be among the best metal bands in existence. And narrowing down their description to "metal" is probably even limiting. From their early days, when they were pigeonholed into the nu metal category, they were rare birds of prey. Now that that genre theoretically no longer exists, they remain faithful to a sound and a way of writing songs that are completely free, and beautiful. The entire album is filled with intense tracks, fabulous melodies, references to the best of new wave, refined and powerful metal rhythms, and a fabulous sound. The second half, in particular, contains breathtaking passages. One of the albums of the year.
