Quinto album per la band statunitense (Minot, North Dakota); quando vi parlai del loro album precedente Self Loather (2021), li accostai ai Deafheaven di Sunbather (così come molte altre persone), e, un po' per le risposte del frontman Dennis Mikula ("le nostre influenze primarie sono state Agalloch e Silencer"), un po', forse, per dimostrare a tutti che ci sbagliavamo, questo disco è molto più variegato, ed include interessanti digressioni atmosferiche, guidate soprattutto da arpeggi ariosi. Naturalmente, non si dimenticano da dove vengono, dal black metal, anche se mescolato con blackgaze, post-metal e post-rock, ma insomma, l'ascolto è interessante.
This is the fifth album from this American band (Minot, North Dakota); when I talked about their previous album, Self Loather (2021), I compared them to Deafheaven's Sunbather (as did many others), and, partly because of frontman Dennis Mikula's response ("our primary influences were Agalloch and Silencer"), and partly, perhaps, to prove everyone wrong, this album is much more varied, and includes interesting atmospheric digressions, driven mostly by airy arpeggios. Of course, they don't forget where they come from—black metal, even if mixed with blackgaze, post-metal, and post-rock—but all in all, it's an interesting listen.
