Come anticipavo nella recensione del loro album precedente Pain Remains del 2022, i Lorna Shore sono tra le mie band preferite, in questi ultimi anni, quindi il mio giudizio è chiaramente falsato. Quindi, lo dirò chiaramente: questa band è, attualmente, uno dei pesi massimi del metal a tutto tondo. Non importa che alcuni li rinchiudano ancora nel recinto del deathcore: un passo alla volta, questa band vi sta uscendo, introducendo elementi progressive e symphonic, nonché inserti vari, come cori e campionamenti ambientali. Non c'è solo questo: questa band, a livello tecnico, è quasi impareggiabile, ascoltate attentamente, strumento per strumento, le tracce. Lasciate per ultima la batteria, ma credetemi: Austin Archey è, probabilmente, un alieno, o un cyborg. Una menzione per Will Ramos, uno dei metallari più cool del momento (si, sono gay per lui): a parte la trascendentale varietà di suoni che riesce ad emettere dalla sua cavità vocale, segno di un talento immenso e anche di una preparazione importante, stavolta porta le liriche su un livello personale, anziché fantasy, ed il tutto ne guadagna. Non voglio tralasciare gli altri: gli assoli di Adam De Micco sono degni della miglior NWOBHM, le ritmiche di Andrew O'Connor sono seconde solo alle sue orchestrazioni e alle parti di synth, e il basso di Michael Yager soffre perché il suono della band è super stratificato, ma non è inferiore agli altri. Per concludere, e tornare sul punto della mia presunta parzialità, ho provato a leggere qualche recensione in rete, e sono tutte esaltanti: se ancora non conoscete i Lorna Shore, affrettatevi.
As I mentioned in my review of their previous album, Pain Remains (2022), Lorna Shore are among my favorite bands of recent years, so my judgment is clearly biased. So, I'll say it clearly: this band is currently one of the heavyweights of all-around metal. It doesn't matter that some still pigeonhole them into deathcore: little by little, this band is breaking out of it, introducing progressive and symphonic elements, as well as various inserts, like choirs and ambient samples. Not only that, but this band, technically, is almost unmatched; listen carefully, instrument by instrument, to the tracks. Save the drums for last, but believe me: Austin Archey is probably an alien, or a cyborg. A shout-out to Will Ramos, one of the coolest metalheads around (yes, I'm gay for him): aside from the transcendental variety of sounds he manages to emit from his vocal cavity, a sign of immense talent and significant preparation, this time he elevates the lyrics to a personal level, rather than a fantasy one, and the whole thing benefits. I don't want to overlook the others: Adam De Micco's solos are worthy of the best NWOBHM, Andrew O'Connor's rhythms are second only to his orchestrations and synth parts, and Michael Yager's bass suffers because the band's sound is so overly layered, but it's no inferior to the others. Finally, and returning to the point of my alleged bias, I tried reading a few reviews online, and they're all thrilling: if you're not familiar with Lorna Shore yet, hurry up.
