Qualcuno tra i pochi che mi leggono e mi conoscono, avrà capito: Hayden Silas Anhedönia, conosciuta professionalmente come Ethel Cain, è l'ultimo mio innamoramento musicale. Mi dolgo già perché la sua data del prossimo novembre a Milano è sold out da tempo, ma conto di vivere abbastanza per riuscire a vederla dal vivo, prima o poi. In occasione del precedente Perverts, che come detto, Wikipedia si ostina a non considerare un album vero e proprio, uscito all'inizio dell'anno in corso, ero quasi convinto di aver trovato il disco dell'anno già a gennaio, ma qui si profila una vittoria a mani basse: Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You è, a mio giudizio, un album meraviglioso, che conferma perfettamente quello che già scrissi in occasione di Preacher's Daughter, ossia la capacità della nostra eroina di scrivere ed eseguire musica che comprende generi più disparati, e al tempo stesso, dimostra che sta riuscendo decisamente a fare di questa capacità un marchio di fabbrica, creando riconoscibilità. Alcuni episodi sono davvero da pelle d'oca. Posso dirvi che, magari con un "ticket" (insieme a Perverts), ritroverete questo disco tra i (miei) migliori dell'anno.
Some of the few who read me and know me will have understood: Hayden Silas Anhedönia, known professionally as Ethel Cain, is my latest musical crush. I'm already grieving that her November date in Milan has been sold out for a while, but I plan to live long enough to see her live, sooner or later. With her previous album, Perverts, which, as mentioned, Wikipedia stubbornly refuses to consider a proper album, released at the beginning of this year, I was almost convinced I'd found the album of the year back in January, but here it looks like a clear winner: Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You is, in my opinion, a marvelous album, which perfectly confirms what I already wrote about Preacher's Daughter—our heroine's ability to write and perform music that spans the most diverse genres—and at the same time, demonstrates that she's definitely succeeding in making this ability a trademark, creating recognition. Some episodes truly give me goosebumps. I can tell you that, maybe with a "ticket" (along with Perverts), you will find this album among (my) best of the year.
