Body of Light - King Witch (2020)
Oggi parliamo di una band scozzese, i King Witch, formatisi nel 2015. Dopo un EP nello stesso anno, Shoulders of Giants, cominciano l'attività live, e nel 2018 arriva l'album di debutto, Under the Mountain. L'anno scorso è uscito il loro secondo album, questo Body of Light del quale parliamo oggi. Per inquadrare il loro stile, se da una parte la voce femminile, ma potente, di Laura Donnelly (davvero impressionante in alcuni passaggi della conclusiva Beyond the Black Gate, come una versione femminile di Ronnie James Dio), fa venire in mente subito i Blues Pills, dall'altra, a parte i Black Sabbath, l'attitudine heavy metal classica con forte influenza doom li colloca più vicini ai Trouble e ai Saint Vitus che alle band più recenti che fanno sludge / doom. Naturalmente, come detto, la voce femminile conferisce loro un tocco molto personale.
Today we are talking about a Scottish band, the King Witch, formed in 2015. After an EP in the same year, Shoulders of Giants, they start the live activity, and in 2018 comes the debut album, Under the Mountain. Last year their second album came out, this Body of Light which we talk about today. In order to define their style, if on the one hand the female but powerful voice of Laura Donnelly (really impressive in some passages of the conclusive track Beyond the Black Gate, like a female version of Ronnie James Dio), immediately brings to mind the Blues Pills, on the other hand, apart from Black Sabbath, the classic heavy metal attitude with a strong doom influence places them closer to Trouble and Saint Vitus than to the more recent bands that do sludge / doom. Of course, as mentioned, the female voice gives them a very personal touch.
