Jylhä - Korpiklaani (2021)

Undicesimo album per questa band piuttosto fuori dal comune per le nostre "abitudini" musicali, non troppo se si pensa che dalla Finlandia arrivano anche gli Steve 'N' Seagulls, dei quali abbiamo parlato di recente. La loro storia parte da lontano, nel 1993, quando Jonne Järvelä fonda gli Shamaani Duo, una band di musica folk sami, che poi cambierà il nome in Shaman, e comincia ad inglobare elementi di musica più pesante. Con il cambio ulteriore di formazione e di nome in Korpiklaani (qualcosa tipo "il clan del bosco"), abbandonano definitivamente il cantato Joik (tipico della musica sami), della lingua sami per passare all'inglese (e, in seguito, al finlandese), e dei sintetizzatori per mettere in formazione strumenti folk. Il risultato è ovviamente molto curioso, e il melange a volte riuscito, a volte meno. Disco senza dubbio divertente.

Eleventh album for this band rather out of the ordinary for our musical "habits", not too much if you think that Steve 'N' Seagulls also comes from Finland, of whom we spoke recently. Their story goes back a long way, in 1993, when Jonne Järvelä founded the Shamaani Duo, a Sami folk music band, which later changed its name to Shaman, and began to incorporate elements of heavier music. With the further change of formation and name in Korpiklaani (something like "the clan of the woods"), they definitively abandon the sung Joik (typical of Sami music), of the Sami language to switch to English (and, later, Finnish), and synthesizers to put into the line-up real folk instruments. The result is obviously very curious, and the melange is sometimes successful, sometimes less so. Undoubtedly fun record.
