An Unexpected Reality - Gatecreeper (2021)

Eccoci al nuovo lavoro per la band dell'Arizona, un disco contenente otto tracce, e che quindi potrebbe sembrare un album, ma che dura 17 minuti in tutto, quindi alcuni lo catalogano come EP. Le coordinate del suono dei Gatecreeper sono quelle che avevamo sommariamente analizzato in occasione del loro secondo album Deserted del 2019, e non sono cambiate di molto: tracce brevi, per lo più, trame veloci e quasi hardcore, rallentamenti potenti e molto sludge. La voce, a tratti rantolante, li avvicina in alcuni frangenti ai capostipiti Cannibal Corpse, ma se fate attenzione, nel complesso potete sentirci dentro dai Motorhead agli Slayer. Quindi, ancora una volta massicci, ma non troppo originali. La traccia conclusiva Emptiness tenta qualcosa di diverso; 11 minuti quasi sabbathiani.

Here we are at the new work for the Arizona band, a record containing eight tracks, and which therefore could seem an album, but which lasts 17 minutes in all, so some catalog it as an EP. The coordinates of Gatecreeper's sound are those we had briefly analyzed on the occasion of their second album Deserted in 2019, and they haven't changed much: short tracks, mostly, fast and almost hardcore textures, powerful slowdowns and a lot of sludge. The voice, at times gasping, brings them closer in some situations to the founders Cannibal Corpse, but if you pay attention, on the whole you can hear us inside from Motorhead to Slayer. So once again massive, but not too original. The concluding track Emptiness tries something different; 11 minutes almost Black Sabbath-ish.
