Terzo disco in studio per la band di Bristol, UK, band che negli ultimi anni è salita all'attenzione di buona parte dell'underground, ed oltre. Ovviamente, forse proprio per questo, molti erano già pronti con i metaforici fucili spianati: Pitchfork ha stroncato il disco senza appello pochi giorni dopo la sua uscita (argomentando in maniera discutibile). E' vero che non ci sono, almeno ai primi ascolti, grossi elementi di novità a livello musicale. Ma è davvero questo che ci aspettavamo dagli Idles? Io non credo. Nonostante ciò, dopo qualche ascolto ci si accorge che c'è pure qualcosa di nuovo, qua e là. Ma, ancora una volta, non era quello che mi aspettavo da questo disco. Liriche arrabbiate, ironiche, mirate ad una presa di coscienza su vari livelli, fanno da spina dorsale ad un disco che è stato anticipato da ben 5 singoli (su un totale di 12 tracce), probabilmente i pezzi migliori del disco, ma non necessariamente: Danke, Anxiety, Kill Them With Kindness, Ne Touche Pas Moi (molto molto The Hives), Carcinogenic, a mio avviso non sono da meno (rispetto a Mr. Motivator, Grounds, A Himn, War e Model Village, forse ancora la mia preferita). Ospiti anche inconsueti (Jehnny Beth, Jamie Cullum, Warren Ellis, David Yow, Kenny Beats) per piccoli contributi, per un disco che, quando torneremo ad incontrarci, sono sicuro sarà un piacere ascoltare dal vivo: dimensione fondamentale per gli Idles.

Obviously, perhaps for this very reason, many were ready with metaphorical shotguns: Pitchfork criticized hard the record without appeal a few days after its release (arguing in a questionable way). It is true that, at least at the first listen, there are no major elements of novelty on a musical level. But is this really what we expected from the Idles? I do not think so. Despite this, after a few listening we realize that there is also something new here and there. But again, it wasn't what I expected from this record. Angry, ironic lyrics, aimed at raising awareness on various levels, form the backbone of a record that has been anticipated by 5 singles (out of a total of 12 tracks), probably the best tracks of the record, but not necessarily: Danke, Anxiety, Kill Them With Kindness, Ne Touche Pas Moi (very very The Hives), Carcinogenic, in my opinion are no less (compared to Mr. Motivator, Grounds, A Himn, War and Model Village, perhaps still my favourite). Guests also unusual (Jehnny Beth, Jamie Cullum, Warren Ellis, David Yow, Kenny Beats) for small contributions, for a record that, when we meet again, I'm sure it will be a pleasure to listen live: a fundamental dimension for the Idles.
