Heavy Pendulum - Cave In (2022)

Signore e signori, uno dei dischi del 2022. Il settimo disco della band statunitense, band della quale abbiamo parlato più volte negli anni, attiva dal 1995 ma segnata, negli ultimi anni, da un grave lutto (la morte del bassista Caleb Scofield nel 2018), e in generale da cambi di formazione, uno iato di qualche anno per vari motivi, e per i molteplici impegni di alcuni membri della band (in particolare di Stephen Brodsky, voce e chitarra, e di Nate Newton, al basso da dopo la morte di Scofield). A parte questo, dopo il disco precedente, registrato usando le ultime tracce di Scofield, buono ma non eccezionale, disco che arrivava a distanza di otto anni dal precedente, stabilizzata la formazione, i Cave In tornano con un disco monumentale, che al solito mette insieme al meglio una miriade di influenze provenienti (ovviamente) dal "campo" hard rock e heavy metal, e ne fanno uscire un disco che inventa sena inventare, suona fresco e coinvolgente, di una bellezza cristallina. Non mi addentro all'analisi traccia per traccia, perché sono convinto, come era una volta, che Heavy Pendulum sia un disco bello nella sua interezza, e così vada ascoltato. 

Ladies and gentlemen, one of the records of 2022. The seventh album of the US band, a band we have talked about several times over the years, active since 1995 but marked, in recent years, by a serious mourning (the death of bassist Caleb Scofield in 2018), and in general from line-up changes, a hiatus of a few years for various reasons, and for the many commitments of some members of the band (in particular Stephen Brodsky, voice and guitar, and Nate Newton, on bass since the death of Scofield). Apart from this, after the previous album, recorded using the last tracks of Scofield, good disc but not exceptional, a disc that arrived eight years after the previous one, the line-up stabilized, Cave In are back with a monumental album, which usually puts together with the best a myriad of influences coming (obviously) from the hard rock and heavy metal "field", and they bring out a record that invents without inventing, it sounds fresh and engaging, of a crystalline beauty. I don't go into the analysis track by track, because I am convinced, as it once was, that Heavy Pendulum is a beautiful record in its entirety, and so it should be listened to as it is.
