Terzo album per il duo poliglotta e difficilmente definibile a livello di nazionalità, formato dalle gemelle Lisa-Kaindé Diaz e Naomi Diaz, duo che abbiamo seguito passo passo, a partire dal debutto omonimo del 2015, e dopo con il loro secondo Ash del 2017. Disco eclettico, come nel loro stile, fin dagli ospiti: Pa Salieu su Made of Gold, Jorja Smith su Lavender & Red Roses, Berwyn su Rise Above, una rivisitazione della canzone dei Black Flag dal loro debutto Damaged del 1981. Tribalismo, a mio giudizio, è una delle definizioni che potremmo usare per descrivere il genere che offrono, intriso di soul, soffice ma incisivo, influenzato pure da trip hop e RNB, perché no, ma quello che ascoltiamo quando ascoltiamo le Ibeyi è un suono che abbraccia tre continenti, qualcosa di quanto più contaminato e ibrido sia dato trovare a livello musicale. Sempre molto interessanti.

Third album for the polyglot duo and hardly definable at nationality level, formed by the twins Lisa-Kaindé Diaz and Naomi Diaz, a duo that we followed step by step, starting from the eponymous debut in 2015, and then with their second Ash in 2017. Eclectic record, as in their style, right from the guests: Pa Salieu on Made of Gold, Jorja Smith on Lavender & Red Roses, Berwyn on Rise Above, a reinterpretation of the Black Flag song from their 1981 Damaged debut. Tribalism, in my opinion, is one of the definitions that we could use to describe the genre they offer, full of soul, soft but incisive, also influenced by trip hop and RNB, why not, but what we hear when we listen to Ibeyi is a sound that spans three continents, something the most contaminated and hybrid that we can be found on a musical level. Always very interesting.
