Una serata alla Casa Nordica

A Night at the Nordic House (Live with the Symphony Orchestra of the Faroe Islands) - Týr (2022)

Confesso che li avevo sentiti nominare ma mai ascoltati, di recente li ho "incrociati" due volte nel giro di pochi giorni (perché stavo leggendo in merito alle isole Far Oer, e perché stavo scorrendo la lista degli album usciti nel 2022), ed ho quindi deciso di ascoltare la loro ultima fatica, per farmi un'idea e parlarvene un poco. I Týr sono una delle (poche) band provenienti da quelle remote ma suggestive isole, e curiosamente (ma fino ad un certo punto), si sono formati nel 1998 a Copenaghen. Da allora, solo due elementi sono rimasti fissi, ed il loro genere è un heavy metal piuttosto classico, con tendenze epiche, liriche ispirate alla cultura ed al pantheon vichingo, con influenze folk nordico. Hanno dovuto fronteggiare qualche polemica (a causa del loro uso delle rune), e qui sono alle prese con una particolare performance, come dice il titolo del disco, insieme alla Symphony Orchestra delle isole Far Oer. Il tutto ben eseguito, ma onestamente, il tempo di questo genere, per me, è passato.

I confess that I had heard of them but never listened to them, I recently "crossed paths" twice within a few days (because I was reading about the Faroe Islands, and because I was scrolling through the list of albums released in 2022), and I so I decided to listen to their latest work, to get an idea and tell you a little about it. Týr are one of the (few) bands from those remote but evocative islands, and curiously (but to a certain point), they formed in 1998 in Copenhagen. Since then, only two elements have remained fixed, and their genre is a rather classic heavy metal, with epic tendencies, lyric inspired by the Viking culture and pantheon, with Nordic folk influences. They have had to face some controversy (due to their use of runes), and here they are grappling with a particular performance, as the title of the record says, together with the Symphony Orchestra of the Far Oer Islands. All well done, but honestly, the time of this genre, for me, has passed.
