As I Try Not to Fall Apart - White Lies (2022)
Sesto lavoro per la band londinese, disco che prosegue nella trasformazione iniziata più o meno a partire dal loro terzo album, cambiamento legittimo per non cadere nella trappola di divenire la cover band di se stessi. Come ebbi già a dire, le influenze provengono sempre da un bacino abbastanza circoscritto, anche in questo caso, manovra del tutto lecita e comprensibile. Il risultato è un suono più solare, anche se le liriche sono sempre piene di ombre (ma con qualche sprazzo di classica ironia inglese); le capacità compositive ci sono ancora, e sono quelle che contribuiscono a far si che il disco, più leggero, ad esempio, rispetto al debutto, non si possa considerare troppo pop e quindi, totalmente da buttare. Però, i White Lies non riescono ad emozionarmi come un tempo.
Sixth work for the London band, a record that continues the transformation started more or less from their third album, a legitimate change in order not to fall into the trap of becoming their own cover band. As I already said, the influences always come from a fairly limited basin, even in this case, a completely legitimate and understandable maneuver. The result is a more sunny sound, even if the lyrics are always full of shadows (but with some flashes of classic English irony); the compositional skills are still there, and are those that contribute to ensuring that the album, lighter, for example, compared to the debut, cannot be considered too pop and therefore totally to be thrown away. However, White Lies are not anymore able to thrill me like they used to.
