Sevendust - Sevendust (1997)

La band di Atlanta, Georgia è una di quelle band che non ho mai approfondito, e non chiedetemi di spiegare il perché: non ce n'è uno in particolare. Di recente, un amico mi parlava del loro debutto, e di quanto fosse stato importante per lui; ho deciso di approfondire. Non è sempre facile approcciare dischi non attuali, se non li hai ascoltati prima, e c'è bisogno di contestualizzare. Essendo del 1997, la cosa più facile è, visto il genere, dare un'occhiata alle uscite di quell'anno di altre due band non dico simili, ma che praticavano un genere vicino: Limp Bizkit (il debutto Three Dollar Bill, Y'all) e Deftones (il secondo Around the Fur). Possiamo quindi dire che anche il debutto dei Sevendust diventa rilevante: sono i primi passi del cosiddetto nu-metal, ed i Sevendust rappresentano la parte più metal (se vogliamo essere precisi, anche loro pescano a piene mani dai Pantera, che però rientrano nel perimetro del metal), mentre le altre due band citate sono maggiormente influenzate da due generi vicini, ma che rendono la loro musica ibrida e probabilmente più interessante. Eppure, questo disco segna delle coordinate, che sicuramente ha influenzato molte band che sono venute dopo.

The band from Atlanta, Georgia is one of those bands that I've never really explored, and don't ask me to explain why: there isn't one reason in particular. Recently, a friend told me about their debut, and how important it was to him; I decided to deepen. It is not always easy to approach non-current records, if you have not listened to them before, and there is a need to contextualize. Being from 1997, the easiest thing is, given the genre, to have a look at the releases of that year of two other bands I don't say similar, but practicing a similar genre: Limp Bizkit (the debut Three Dollar Bill, Y'all) and Deftones (the second Around the Fur). We can therefore say that even the debut of Sevendust becomes relevant: they are the first steps of the so-called nu-metal, and Sevendust represent the most metal part (if we want to be precise, they too draw heavily from Pantera, which however fall within the perimeter of metal), while the other two bands mentioned are more influenced by two close genres, but which make their music hybrid and probably more interesting. Still, this record marks some coordinates, which certainly influenced many bands that came after.
