Quindicesimo (o sedicesimo, se contiamo pure Loud Is Not Enough pubblicato come Public Enemy Radio) disco in studio per lo storico combo hip hop di Long Island, New York, a 35 anni dalla sua formazione, praticamente una vita media. Ai miei orecchi suonano ancora decenti, seppure immagino che a quelle di mio nipote, cresciuto con la trap, possano suonare antichi. Il problema è che, al netto del ritorno all'etichetta Def Jam, non c'è niente di veramente nuovo, e il ritorno sembra solo cavalcare il movimento Black Lives Matter. Si pesca a piene mani nel passato, tanto che qualche recensore suggerisce che non avrebbe dovuto essere neppure un disco, bensì un semplice mixtape, qualche traccia nella prima parte può ancora eccitare l'ascoltatore, ma nel complesso non siamo di fronte ad un disco epocale.
Fifteenth (or sixteenth, if we also count Loud Is Not Enough released as Public Enemy Radio) studio album for the historic hip hop combo from Long Island, New York, 35 years after its born, practically an average life. To my ears they still sound decent, although I imagine that to my nephew, who grew up with the trap, they may sound ancient. The problem is that, apart of the return to the Def Jam label, there is nothing really new, and the return just seems to ride the Black Lives Matter movement. They fish with both hands in the past, so much so that some reviewers suggest that it should not have even been a record, but a simple mixtape, some tracks in the first part can still excite the listener, but overall we are not facing an epochal record.
