Se, come ho fatto io, vi andate a rileggere le tre recensioni di altrettanti dischi dei newyorkesi Krallice, Dimensional Bleedthrough (2009), Diotima (2011) e Prelapsarian (2017), vi accorgerete che non sono esattamente la mia band preferita. Per qualche oscura ragione, questo loro nono album non mi dispiace affatto. Riesco, più di altre volte, a distinguere qualcosa, dentro il solito inferno musicale che solitamente scatenano. Sia chiaro, siamo ancora dalle parti del metal più estremo, sommariamente etichettato come experimental black metal, molto tecnico, tracce dilatate con infiniti cambi di tempo, cavalcate furiose, violente, aggressive, due voci (uno dei chitarristi, Mike Barr, e il bassista Nick McMaster) forsennate, intrecci chitarristici (l'altro chitarrista, leader e fondatore, è Colin Marston, anche produttore di molte band di musica estrema) complicatissimi, una sezione ritmica che certo non si limita a mantenere un 4/4. Mi pare che su questo disco, dai droni di chitarra ci si muova verso ritmiche velocissime e, come detto, complicate ma gustose, per chi apprezza le dissonanze e i tecnicismi, e spesso venga messo in evidenza il grandissimo lavoro del basso, e addirittura ci sia spazio pure per rarissimi momenti leggermente più lenti. Certo, ancora un disco molto complesso, e che richiede totale attenzione, ma da non sottovalutare.
If, as I did, you go and reread the three reviews of as many records by New Yorkers Krallice, Dimensional Bleedthrough (2009), Diotima (2011) and Prelapsarian (2017), you will find that they are not exactly my favorite band. For some reason, I don't mind this ninth album of theirs. I am able, more than other times, to distinguish something, within the usual musical hell that they usually unleash. Let's be clear, we are still in the zone of the most extreme metal, summarily labeled as experimental black metal, very technical, dilated tracks with infinite rhythm changes, furious rides, violent, aggressive, two voices (one of the guitarists, Mike Barr, and the bassist Nick McMaster) frenzied, guitar intertwinings (the other guitarist, leader and founder, is Colin Marston, also producer of many extreme music bands) very complicated, a rhythm section that certainly does not just maintain a 4/4. It seems to me that on this record, from the guitar drones we move towards very fast rhythms and, as mentioned, complicated but tasty, for those who appreciate dissonances and technicalities, and often the great work of the bass is highlighted, and even there is space as well for very rare moments that are slightly slower. Of course, still a very complex album, and that requires total attention, but not to be underestimated.
