Epic Ten - Sharon Van Etten (2021)

E' un piacere quasi inaspettato, sapere che dopo 14 anni di carriera, Sharon Van Etten si può permettere di celebrare il suo secondo disco facendo re-interpretare quei sette brani da artisti dei quali lei stessa è ammiratrice. E' un'operazione che diverte e, in un certo qual modo, lusinga anche l'ascoltatore, che trova, appunto, conferma della bontà della sua scelta: l'artista non solo è valida, ma è universalmente riconosciuta. Personalmente non avevo troppi dubbi, ma insomma, riascoltare Save Yourself suonata da Lucinda Williams, Love More da Fiona Apple, Don't Do It da Courtney Barnett (e Vagabon), addirittura Peace Signs dagli Idles, è una delle cose più fighe degli ultimi tempi.

It is an almost unexpected pleasure to know that after 14 years of career, Sharon Van Etten can afford to celebrate her second album by having those seven songs reinterpreted by artists of which she herself is an admirer. It is an operation that amuses and, in a certain way, also flatters the listener, who finds, in fact, confirmation of the goodness of a personal choice: the artist is not only valid, but she is universally recognized. Personally I didn't have too many doubts, but in short, listening to Save Yourself played by Lucinda Williams, Love More by Fiona Apple, Don't Do It by Courtney Barnett (and Vagabon), even Peace Signs by Idles, is one of the coolest things of the last times.
