Violenza inimmaginabile

Violence Unimagined - Cannibal Corpse (2021)

Una riflessione che mi è venuta improvvisa, davanti al quindicesimo album della band originaria di Buffalo, New York, poi trasferitasi a Tampa, Florida (un po' come fanno in pensionati negli US), è quella che dopo 33 anni di attività, uno potrebbe pure essersi annoiato. Non sembra il caso, soprattutto se pensate che appunto, in questi (appunto) 33 anni, il bassista Alex Webster e il batterista Paul Mazurkiewicz, sono rimasti sempre lì, come una locomotiva impazzita ma sempre sui binari, a portare avanti una delle band storiche del death metal. Influenzando centinaia di altre band più giovani, subendo censure in tutto il mondo, eppure mantenendo la barra dritta, e continuando a sfornare dischi mozzafiato. Questo ultimo Violence Unimagined (titolo impeccabile) non è da meno, rifacendosi ai loro ispiratori (Morbid Angel, Slayer), suona ancora devastante, come se i nostri cinque fossero imberbi adolescenti, ma con una tecnica sopraffina, ed un controllo invidiabile. Giù il cappello.

A reflection that came to me suddenly, in front of the fifteenth album by the band originally from Buffalo, New York, then moved to Tampa, Florida (a bit like they do in retirees in the US), is that after 33 years of activity, one could even being bored. It does not seem the case, especially if you think that in these (precisely) 33 years, bassist Alex Webster and drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz, have always remained there, like a crazy locomotive but always on the tracks, to carry on one of the historical bands of death metal. Influencing hundreds of other younger bands, getting censored all over the world, yet keeping the bar straight, and continuing to churn out breathtaking records. This latest Violence Unimagined (flawless title) is no less, referring to their inspirers (Morbid Angel, Slayer), it still sounds devastating, as if our five were beardless teenagers, but with a superfine technique, and an enviable control. Hat off.
