The Spiritual Sound è il secondo album per la band di Los Angeles, California, band della quale vi parlo oggi per la prima volta, ma che seguo da qualche tempo. Un disco molto variegato, seppure il genere di base sia il black metal. La varietà è dovuta al fatto che la band ha influenze molto diverse, e tenta di innestare, sulla base black metal, una composizione che tende al progressive, liriche attuali ("esperienze umane fondamentali di sofferenza, gioia e amore") ma anche ispirate a concetti (appunto) spirituali, insieme a tendenze blackgaze/shoegaze, ritmiche sludge, assoli sorprendentemente heavy metal. Spiazzante ed intrigante al tempo stesso. Tecnicamente molto bravi, il fatto che sulla conclusiva The Reply ci sia ospite nientemeno che Emma Ruth Rundle non fa altro che elevarli oltremodo. Un disco davvero molto interessante.
The Spiritual Sound is the second album from the Los Angeles, California-based band, a band I'm talking about today for the first time, but one I've been following for some time. It's a very diverse album, despite its underlying genre being black metal. This diversity is due to the band's diverse influences, and they attempt to graft, onto their black metal foundation, progressive songwriting, contemporary lyrics ("fundamental human experiences of suffering, joy, and love") but also inspired by (precisely as the title of the album suggests) spiritual concepts, along with blackgaze/shoegaze tendencies, sludge riffs, and surprisingly heavy metal solos. Disconcerting and intriguing at the same time. Technically very good, the fact that the closing track, "The Reply" features none other than Emma Ruth Rundle only elevates them further. A truly interesting album.
