Chemtrails over the Country Club - Lana Del Rey (2021)
Ci prende, Alexis Petridis del Guardian, quando descrive la musica di Lana Del Rey "un luogo dove il trip-hop incontra lo stile dei cantautori dei primi anni '70, la lussureggiante spettralità di Floating Into the Night di Julee Cruise e il suono riverberato di Mazzy Star". Anche questo nuovo Chemtrails over the Country Club, liricamente un ulteriore dolente affresco di uomini che non valgono niente e donne innamorate, dove musicalmente Lana si fa coadiuvare, in otto su undici tracce da quella specie di Re Mida del pop che è Jack Antonoff, nonché da Rick Nowels (Breaking Up Slowly) e da Nikki Lane (Dance Till We Die), conclude con una cover di Joni Mitchell (For Free da Ladies of the Canyon, 1970), dove ospita le colleghe Zella Day e Weyes Blood, è un disco melodicamente micidiale, dove la capacità di scrivere canzoni bellissime è riaffermata e indiscutibile. Nel caso siate ancora scettici sulle di lei capacità, vi basterà ascoltare anche solo i primi due minuti della canzone d'apertura White Dress: se non è un capolavoro, poco ci manca. Disco davvero bello.
He nailed it, Alexis Petridis of The Guardian, when he describes Lana Del Rey's music a place "where trip-hop meets early 70s singer-songwriter stylings, the lush spookiness of Julee Cruise’s Floating Into the Night and the reverb-y sound of Mazzy Star". Also this new Chemtrails over the Country Club, lyrically a further painful fresco of men who are worthless and women in love, where musically Lana is assisted, in eight out of eleven tracks by that sort of King Midas of pop that is Jack Antonoff, as well as by Rick Nowels (Breaking Up Slowly) and by Nikki Lane (Dance Till We Die), concludes with a cover by Joni Mitchell (For Free from Ladies of the Canyon, 1970), hosting colleagues Zella Day and Weyes Blood, is a melodically deadly album, where the ability to write beautiful songs is reaffirmed and indisputable. In case you are still skeptical about her abilities, just listen to even the first two minutes of the opening song White Dress: if it is not a masterpiece, we are close. Really nice record.
