As Days Gets Dark - Arab Strap (2021)
La band di Glasgow torna con un album a 16 anni di distanza dal precedente, e mi ricorda che non li ho mai capito a fondo. Eppure, questo incrocio fra Afghan Whigs, Sleaford Mods e Leonard Cohen, con quella pronuncia scozzese affascinante ma insopportabile, quel nichilismo di fondo mescolato con un umorismo esistenziale difficile da trovare altrove, anche nel 2021 ha il suo perché. Un tappeto sonoro all'altezza, cupo, avvolgente, elegante, decadente. Mi raccomando, leggete le liriche.
The Glasgow band returns with an album 16 years after the previous one, and it reminds me that I never fully understood them. Yet this cross between Afghan Whigs, Sleaford Mods and Leonard Cohen, with that fascinating but unbearable Scottish pronunciation, that basic nihilism mixed with an existential humor difficult to find elsewhere, even in 2021 has its why.
