Killers Like Us - Buñuel (2022)

Terzo album per la band "ibrida" (per 3/4 italiana più Eugene Robinson degli Oxbow alla voce; i 3/4 italiani sono Xabier Iriondo alla chitarra, storico componente degli Afterhours, Francesco Valente alla batteria, da Il Teatro degli Orrori, e Andrea Lombardini al basso, musicista di estrazione jazz, che sostituisce Pierpaolo Capovilla, anche lui da Il Teatro degli Orrori, basso sui due precedenti album A Resting Place For Strangers del 2016, e The Easy Way Out del 2018), che prende il nome dal grande regista nato spagnolo, poi naturalizzato messicano. La band, forte della grande tecnica dei componenti e della spiccata personalità del cantante, mette in mostra un noise rock robustissimo e al tempo stesso, evocativo ed abbastanza sperimentale. L'ascolto è impegnativo ma soddisfacente, naturalmente per chi non ha paura di confrontarsi con musica "al limite". Ho trovato l'accostamento con la Rollins Band fatto da Jared Dix di The Quietus piuttosto azzeccato. Questo disco esce, oltre che per la "solita" La Tempesta, per la Profound Lore, e questo fa ben sperare in una diffusione anche al di fuori dei confini della penisola.

Third album for the "hybrid" band (for 3/4 Italian plus Eugene Robinson of Oxbow on vocals; 3/4 Italians are Xabier Iriondo on guitar, historical component of Afterhours, Francesco Valente on drums, from Il Teatro degli Orrori, and Andrea Lombardini on bass, jazz musician, who replaces Pierpaolo Capovilla, also from Il Teatro degli Orrori, bass on the two previous albums A Resting Place For Strangers of 2016, and The Easy Way Out of 2018), which takes its name from the great director born Spanish, then naturalized Mexican. The band, thanks to the great technique of the components and the strong personality of the singer, showcases a very robust noise rock and at the same time, evocative and quite experimental. Listening is demanding but satisfying, of course for those who are not afraid of dealing with "borderline" music. I found the juxtaposition with the Rollins Band by Jared Dix of The Quietus quite apt. This album comes out, as well as for the "usual" La Tempesta, for Profound Lore, and this bodes well for a diffusion even outside the borders of the Italian peninsula.
