Il risentimento è sempre sismico

Resentment Is Always Seismic - A Final Throw of Throes - Napalm Death (2022)

Il titolo ci suggerisce che questo EP (otto tracce, 30 minuti quasi esatti) è l'atto finale di quello che al momento è l'ultimo album della mitica band di Meriden, West Midlands (UK), Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism, del 2020. La band è innegabilmente sempre in ottima forma musicale, è impossibile non rendersene conto, nonostante i membri siano tutti ultra-cinquantenni. Ma andiamo nel dettaglio, e vediamo alcune curiosità. Ci sono due cover: la prima, curiosa rivisitazione di People Pie degli SLAB!, è sicuramente qualcosa di non comune per una band come i Napalm Death, ma direi che se la cavano alla grande e la cosa diverte pure. Poi c'è Don't Need It, dal debutto eponimo del 1982 dei Bad Brains, un omaggio doveroso. Chiude Resentment is Always Seismic (Dark Sky Burial Dirge), che è la versione ambient/tribal di Resentment Always Simmers, altra chicca pesantissima. Sicuramente non una pietra miliare, ma come detto prima, un ulteriore segnale di una band che davvero non dà segno di alcun cedimento dopo oltre 40 anni di attività.

The title suggests that this EP (eight tracks, 30 minutes almost exactly) is the final act of what is currently the latest album by the legendary band from Meriden, West Midlands (UK), Throes of Joy in the Jaws of Defeatism, from 2020. The band is undeniably always in excellent musical form, it's impossible not to realize it, despite the fact that the members are all over 50 years old. But let's go into detail, and see some curiosities. There are two covers: the first, curious reinterpretation of People Pie by SLAB!, is certainly something uncommon for a band like Napalm Death, but I would say that they are doing great and it is fun too. Then there's Don't Need It, from the eponymous 1982 debut by Bad Brains, a dutiful homage. Resentment is Always Seismic (Dark Sky Burial Dirge) closes, which is the ambient / tribal version of Resentment Always Simmers, another very heavy gem. Definitely not a milestone, but as mentioned before, a further sign of a band that really shows no sign of letting up after more than 40 years of activity.
