The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny - Mr. Bungle (2020)

Non c'è dubbio che il 2020 verrà ricordato come l'anno delle sorprese. Questa è una delle tante, sicuramente non lascerà il segno ma qualcuno sarà perfino commosso. Le tre menti creative, l'istrionico cantante Mike Patton, il chitarrista Trey Spruance, il bassista Trevor Dunn, coadiuvati dagli amici Scott Ian (Anthrax, un chitarrista ritmico metal estremamente sottovalutato, ma probabilmente una delle figure più simpatiche del metal stesso) e Dave Lombardo (soprattutto noto per la sua militanza negli Slayer, uno dei migliori batteristi viventi), e con la partecipazione straordinaria di Rhea Perlman (attrice e ex moglie di Danny DeVito), per la narrazione su Anarchy Up Your Anus, hanno rimesso insieme la band per una serie di concerti (svoltisi all'inizio del 2020), e per ri-registrare il primo demo della band, risalente al 1986 (che diventa così il loro quarto album in 35 anni). Per la precisione, rispetto al demo, è stata esclusa Evil Satan, Hypocrites è stata accorciata e miscelata con la cover di Speak English or Die (in versione spagnola, Habla Español O Muere), sono state aggiunte tre tracce inedite e una cover dei Corrosion of Conformity, Loss for Words. Il risultato potrebbe portarmi a scrivere davvero troppo, e sareste sorpresi da quanto la musica estrema può risultare commovente se inserita in un contesto storico/personale, quindi vi rimando a questa altrettanto emozionale recensione di The Quietus; quello che posso dirvi è che solo a livello musicale, questo demo era l'espressione di tre musicisti visionari, che creavano un ponte tra il thrash metal e il death, non prendendosi troppo sul serio. Divertente ed eccitante al tempo stesso.

There is no doubt that 2020 will be remembered as the year of surprises. This is one of many, it will certainly not leave its mark but some will even be moved. The three creative minds, histrionic singer Mike Patton, guitarist Trey Spruance, bassist Trevor Dunn, supported by friends Scott Ian (Anthrax, an extremely underrated metal rhythm guitarist, but probably one of the nicest figures in metal itself) and Dave Lombardo (especially known for his militancy in Slayer, one of the best living drummers), and with the extraordinary participation of Rhea Perlman (actress and ex-wife of Danny DeVito), for the narration on Anarchy Up Your Anus, they put the band back together for a series of concerts (held in early 2020), and to re-record the band's first demo, dating back to 1986 (making it their fourth album in 35 years). To be precise, compared to the demo, Evil Satan has been excluded, Hypocrites has been shortened and mixed with the cover of Speak English or Die (in Spanish version, Habla Español O Muere), three unreleased tracks and a cover of Corrosion of Conformity, Loss for Words, have been added. The result could lead me to write too much, and you would be surprised at how moving extreme music can be when placed in a historical / personal context, so I refer you to this equally emotional review of The Quietus; what I can tell you is that only musically, this demo was the expression of three visionary musicians, who created a bridge between thrash metal and death metal, not taking themselves too seriously. Fun and exciting at the same time.
