Anti-Icon - Ghostemane (2020)

Eric Whitney, originario della Florida e poi trasferitosi a Los Angeles, California, per perseguire la sua carriera musicale, è al suo ottavo disco in studio sotto il nome di Ghostemane (ne ha altri sotto altri nomi); ha 29 anni, è cresciuto suonando la chitarra in band hardcore punk e ascoltando Bathory, Carcass, Deicide, Death, Mayhem, poi ha conosciuto il rap. Bianco, biondo, gracile, occhi celesti, capelli lunghi. Appassionato di occultismo, i suoi testi, oltre a parlare di questo si occupano di depressione, nichilismo e morte. Non c'è da stupirsi se la sua immagine somiglia sempre più a quella di Marilyn Manson (dal quale, oltre che ovviamente dai Nine Inch Nails, ha subito l'ispirazione per suoni industrial metal). Non è l'unico che sta provando a percorrere la strada del trap incrociato con il metal estremo, ma potrebbe essere quello che ci riesce meglio: questo nuovo disco è a tratti travolgente, e, per farvela molto breve, se piace a me, vecchio metallaro, e un po' pure a mio nipote, che come tutti i 16enni ascolta solo trap, significa che al momento, è quello che ha capito più cose di tutti, almeno in questo campo. White, blond, skinny, blue eyes, long hair. Passionate about occultism, his lyrics, in addition to talking about this, deal with depression, nihilism and death. No wonder that her image increasingly resembles that of Marilyn Manson (from which, as well as obviously from Nine Inch Nails, he has been inspired by industrial metal sounds). He is not the only one who is trying to walk the path of the trap crossed with extreme metal, but he could be the one who does this best: this new record is at times overwhelming, and, to make it very short, if I like it, as old metalhead, and it like also by my nephew, who like all 16 year olds only listens to trap, this means that at the moment, he is the one who has understood the most things of all, at least in this field.
