In maniera abbastanza inaspettata, ma straordinariamente adatta alla sua estensione vocale (nonostante i maligni sostengano che per lo scream e l'harsh non ce la farebbe più), Phil Anselmo, dopo l'annuncio risalente al 2017 e al singolo uscito nell'agosto del 2019, debutta con gli En Minor, una formazione di ben otto elementi (due chitarre oltre a quella di Anselmo, violoncello, batteria, tastiere, basso, percussioni), che suona un genere che il sito dell'etichetta Season of Mist definisce depression rock, e spiazza non poco. Con venature risalenti fino alla new wave, gli En Minor si pescano nel folk e nell'americana con sfumature southern-gothic, e con la voce di Anselmo partono da Tom Waits per insidiare l'ormai decadente predominanza di Mark Lanegan nella sua nicchia di mercato, con tracce scure, decadenti, vagamente nichiliste. Molto lontano dal metal, sfruttando a pieno una voce profondissima, Phil Anselmo e gli En Minor non suonano certo come una novità, ma si offrono all'ascoltatore con un disco niente male, e chissà che non possano ulteriormente sorprenderci in futuro.

Quite unexpectedly, but extraordinarily suited to his vocal range (despite the malicious claim that he wouldn't be able to cope anymore with the scream and the hash), Phil Anselmo, after the announcement dating back to 2017 and the single released in August of 2019, debuts with En Minor, a band of eight elements (two guitars in addition to Anselmo's, cello, drums, keyboards, bass, percussion), which plays a genre that the Season of Mist label site defines depression rock, and displaces not a little. With echoes dating back to the new wave, En Minor pick up in folk and americana with southern-gothic nuances, and with Anselmo's voice they start from Tom Waits to undermine the now decadent dominance of Mark Lanegan in his market niche, with dark, decadent, vaguely nihilistic tracks. Very far from metal, taking full advantage of a very deep voice, Phil Anselmo and En Minor certainly do not sound like a novelty, but they offer themselves to the listener with a pretty good record, and who knows that they may not surprise us further in the future.
