Alpha Games - Bloc Party (2022)

Li avevo persi di vista dopo i primi due album, Silent Alarm del 2005 e A Weekend in the City del 2007, quando la critica scommetteva che avrebbero rivoluzionato la musica rock (e a me non convincevano per niente): sapete com'è andata a finire. Qui sono al loro sesto disco, con una formazione cambiata per metà (già dal disco precedente), che (a detta loro) provano a tornare all'energia dei loro esordi. Come già dicevamo per i Fontaines D.C., i Clash aleggiano (giustamente, aggiungerei) un po' sopra tutta la musica alternativa inglese, ma i Bloc Party aggiungono influenze elettroniche dance di quelle buone e una composizione che riesce ad essere spesso ruffiana e accattivante. Ma a lungo andare, risultano (almeno per me) sempre troppo leggeri ed evanescenti.

I had lost sight of them after the first two albums, 2005's Silent Alarm and 2007's A Weekend in the City, when critics were betting they would revolutionize rock music (and they didn't convince me at all): you know how it ended. Here they are on their sixth disc, with a half-changed line-up (already from the previous disc), which (according to them) try to return to the energy of their beginnings. As we already said for the Fontaines D.C., the Clash hover (rightly, I would add) a little above all the English alternative music, but Bloc Party add electronic dance influences of the good ones and a composition that manages to be often catchy and captivating. But in the long run, they are (at least for me) always too light and evanescent.
