Dread Reaver - Abbath (2022)

Terzo album per la band guidata indiscutibilmente da Olve Eikemo aka Abbath Doom Occulta (per gli amici solo Abbath), il primo dopo il polverone che lo ha colpito dopo una sua performance davvero rock and roll (Il 25 novembre 2019 Abbath Doom Occulta ha annunciato tramite Facebook che sarebbe andato in riabilitazione per dipendenza dopo un concerto a Buenos Aires, in Argentina, cancellando il resto del tour sudamericano degli Abbath. Il concerto è stato ritardato di due ore e si è concluso con Abbath che ha lanciato la sua chitarra tra la folla dopo diverse false partenze ed è stato scortato nel suo camerino). Ora, non è (come già ebbi a dire in occasione del precedente Outstrider) l'unico segnale che il personaggio in questione sia una sorta di despota, ma tutto sommato, la musica non è malaccio, anche se ci sono altri segnali che potrebbero indicare un compitino eseguito giusto per mantenersi a galla (nove tracce, trentanove minuti di musica). E' un black metal che tenta di mescolare ruvidità tipiche del genere, con chiare influenze classic heavy metal. Non male, ma non esaltante.

Third album for the band indisputably led by Olve Eikemo aka Abbath Doom Occulta (for friends only Abbath), the first after the fuss that hit him after a truly rock and roll performance (November 25, 2019 Abbath Doom Occulta announced via Facebook that would go into addiction rehab after a concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina, canceling the rest of Abbath's South American tour. The concert was delayed by two hours and ended with Abbath throwing his guitar into the crowd, after several false starts and was escorted to his dressing room). Now, it is not (as I already said on the occasion of the previous Outstrider) the only sign that the character in question is some sort of despot, but all in all, the music is not too bad, even if there are other signs that could indicate a homework done just to stay afloat (nine tracks, thirty-nine minutes of music). It is a black metal that attempts to mix typical roughnesses of the genre, with clear classic heavy metal influences. Not bad, but not exciting.
