Nell'agosto 1968, Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden, Rennie Davis, David Dellinger, Lee Weiner, John Froines e Bobby Seale si preparano per protestare alla Convention Nazionale dei Democratici a Chicago. Cinque mesi dopo, vengono arrestati e accusati di aver incitato a una rivolta. John N. Mitchell, il procuratore generale, nomina Tom Foran e Richard Schultz come pubblici ministeri, mentre tutti gli imputati tranne Seale sono rappresentati da William Kunstler e Leonard Weinglass. Il giudice Julius Hoffman mostra un pregiudizio significativo per l'accusa, insistendo soprattutto sul fatto che lui e Abbie Hoffman non sono imparentati. L'avvocato di Seale, Charles Garry, non può partecipare a causa di una malattia, portando il giudice Hoffman a insistere affinché Kunstler lo rappresenti. Questa insistenza è respinta sia da Kunstler che da Seale. Seale riceve supporto da Fred Hampton che il giudice Hoffman presume sia un aiuto legale. Abbie Hoffman si inimica apertamente la corte. Il giudice Hoffman rimuove un giurato che sospetta simpatizzi con gli imputati a causa delle minacce segnalate dal Black Panther Party e accusa gli imputati e i loro avvocati di molteplici accuse di oltraggio alla corte. Cresce la tensione tra gli imputati.

Alla seconda regia, il grande sceneggiatore Aaron Sorkin realizza un film bellissimo, sotto tutti i punti di vista. Tratto dalla vera storia dei cosiddetti Chicago Seven, un film di oltre due ore che tiene lo spettatore incollato allo schermo, diverte, intriga. Cast superbo, ma Sacha Baron Cohen (Abbie Hoffman) e Jeremy Strong (Jerry Rubin) staccano tutti di una spanna. Gran film. 

At the second direction, the great screenwriter Aaron Sorkin makes a beautiful film, from all points of view. Based on the true story of the so-called Chicago Seven, a film of over two hours that keeps the viewer glued to the screen, entertains, intrigues. Superb cast, but Sacha Baron Cohen (Abbie Hoffman) and Jeremy Strong (Jerry Rubin) lead above all the others by a notch. Great movie.
