Back In Black - Cypress Hill (2022)

Sono arrivati al decimo album, i "ragazzi" della band formatasi a South Gate, California. Mettiamo ragazzi fra virgolette visto che hanno tutti oltrepassato la soglia dei 50 anni. Dieci tracce, disco piuttosto breve (poco più di 32 minuti), che, sulla scia del precedente Elephants on Acid del 2018, e a differenza dell'ancor più vecchio Rise Up del 2010, che spingeva sul pedale del metal e risentiva dell'abbandono temporaneo di DJ Muggs, torna verso il rap West Coast dalle venature latine, ma ovviamente prova a fondere questo suono che per loro è abbastanza tradizionale, con quello più duro e tendente al metal. Ci riescono fino ad un certo punto, ma al solito, l'ascolto non annoia mai, perché la musica dei Cypress Hill è molto stratificata, e dà soddisfazione ai conoscitori. La traccia più incisiva, seppure anche quella più prevedibile, è Certified, con la partecipazione di Demrick (c'è anche un altro ospite, Dizzy Wright, sulla seguente Bye Bye), ma pure il resto ha il suo perché, ed il marchio di fabbrica della band è perfettamente riconoscibile.

They arrived at the tenth album, the "boys" of the band formed in South Gate, California. Let's put boys in quotes since they've all crossed the 50-year mark. Ten tracks, quite short disc (just over 32 minutes), which, in the wake of the previous Elephants on Acid of 2018, and unlike the even older Rise Up of 2010, which pushed on the metal pedal and suffered from the temporary abandonment by DJ Muggs, returns to the West Coast rap with Latin veins, but obviously tries to blend this sound that is quite traditional for them, with the harder and more metal-like one. They succeed up to a certain point, but as usual, listening is never boring, because Cypress Hill's music is very layered, and satisfies connoisseurs. The most incisive track, albeit also the most predictable one, is Certified, with the participation of Demrick (there is also another guest, Dizzy Wright, on the following Bye Bye), but the rest also has its why, and the brand of factory of the band is perfectly recognizable.
