Impera - Ghost (2022)

Quinto album in studio per la band svedese, della quale vi avevo parlato in una sola occasione (terzo album Meliora del 2015), occasione a proposito della quale devo fare ammenda, dato che scrissi convinto che i cantanti si fossero avvicendati, mentre al contrario, la posizione di cantante è sempre stata appannaggio del leader incontrastato Tobias Forge: quello che gli statunitensi definiscono un rookie mistake, errore da principiante, essendo io poco addentro alla storia e alla conoscenza dei Ghost. Ribadisco che la discrepanza tra l'immagine della band e il genere da loro praticato rimane spiazzante, ma essendo invecchiato (o magari perché questo disco non è malaccio), riesco ad ascoltarlo senza episodi di rigetto, anche se alcune pomposità continuano ad infastidirmi, mentre mi ritrovo a sorridere sugli episodi che mi ricordano in particolar modo i Boston, per provare a dirvi che senza dubbio, come già notava l'amico Monty, estimatore più di me degli svedesi, l'AOR è una delle influenze maggiori. Meno convincenti quando cercano di "metallizzare" maggiormente il loro suono, se siete di mentalità musicale abbastanza aperta riuscirete ad ascoltare questo disco sorridendo e godendo, appunto, nel sentire tutta una serie di influenze hard rock degli ultimi 50 anni.

Fifth studio album for the Swedish band, of which I had talked about on only one occasion (third album Meliora of 2015), an occasion about which I have to make amends, since I wrote convinced that the singers had alternated, while on the contrary, the position of singer has always been the prerogative of the undisputed leader Tobias Forge: what the Americans define as a rookie mistake, since I am not very familiar with the history and knowledge of Ghost. I repeat that the discrepancy between the image of the band and the genre they practice remains unsettling, but having aged (or maybe because this record is not too bad), I can listen to it without episodes of rejection, even if some pomposities continue to bother me, while I find myself smiling at the episodes that remind me in particular of Boston, to try to tell you that without a doubt, as my friend Monty already noted, a fan of the Swedes more than me, AOR is one of the major influences. Less convincing when they try to "metallize" their sound more, if you are open-minded enough you will be able to listen to this record smiling and enjoying, in fact, hearing a whole series of hard rock influences from the last 50 years.
