Orpheus Looking Back - Emma Ruth Rundle (2022)
Più un singolo che un EP, questo dischetto ci porta tre nuove canzoni di Emma Ruth Rundle; Pump Organ Song, che nel testo parla del suo matrimonio fallito (tra l'altro, come ha dichiarato lei stessa, non per colpa del suo ex partner, ma per i suoi problemi di dipendenza e di sanità mentale), e che musicalmente, proprio per la presenza dell'organo, ricorderebbe un'altra delle nostre eroine musicali preferite, Anna von Hausswolff, se non fosse per la profonda differenza tra le loro voci (oltre al diverso approccio alla forma-canzone). Le altre due tracce, Gilded Cage e St. Non, sono due brevi e piuttosto scarni brani acustici. La prima è abbastanza prevedibile, per chi conosce l'approccio musicale di ERR, seppur bella, mentre la seconda si distacca leggerissimamente dal suo stile, provando a sondarne uno ancora più folk classico. Niente di veramente trascendentale.
More a single than an EP, this little disc brings us three new songs by Emma Ruth Rundle; Pump Organ Song, which in the text talks about her failed marriage (among other things, as she herself declared, not because of her ex partner, but because of her addiction and sanity problems), and that musically, just for the presence of the organ, it would remember another of our favorite musical heroines, Anna von Hausswolff, were it not for the profound difference between their voices (in addition to the different approach to the song-form). The other two tracks, Gilded Cage and St. Non, are two short and rather meager acoustic pieces. The first is quite predictable, for those who know ERR's musical approach, albeit good, while the second is very slightly detached from her style, trying to probe an even more classical folk one. Nothing truly transcendental.
