Witness - Vola (2021)

Terzo album per la band danese, che ascoltavo per la prima volta e che, confesso, ci ho messo un po' per inquadrare. Era meno complicato di quanto pensassi, ma sentivo di dovervelo dire. I Vola, che col loro nome volevano appunto esprimere la grandiosità delle loro aperture melodiche, che nella loro ultima line-up incorporano anche uno svedese, il batterista Adam Janzi, si rifanno, dal punto di vista dell'uso delle chitarre, al djent dei Meshuggah, da quello delle composizioni a un rock più progressivo (Opeth e quindi pure Pink Floyd), e da quello delle melodie a qualcosa di molto lontano, tanto è vero che l'apertura di Straight Lines (ma non solo, lo sentirete) mi fa venire in mente il synthpop degli a-ha. Non esattamente il mio genere preferito, ma l'ascolto potrebbe rivelarsi sorprendentemente piacevole.

Third album for the Danish band, which I was listening to for the first time and which, I confess, it took me a while to frame. It was less complicated than I thought, but I felt I had to tell you. Vola, who with their name wanted to express the grandeur of their melodic openings, which in their latest line-up also incorporate a Swede, drummer Adam Janzi, refer, from the point of view of the use of guitars, to the djent of Meshuggah, from that of compositions to a more progressive rock (Opeth and therefore also Pink Floyd), and from that of melodies to something far away, so much so that the opening of Straight Lines (but not only that, you will hear it) brings to mind the synthpop of a-ha. Not exactly my favorite genre, but listening to it could be surprisingly enjoyable.
