Di John William Weller detto Paul (già dai suoi genitori), nato 63 anni fa a Woking, Surrey, UK (un sobborgo di Londra), da genitori working class, c'è rimasto da dire poco, oppure ne potremmo parlare per ore. Quel che mi viene da pensare ascoltando il suo sedicesimo disco solista, è che è semplicemente un piacere che una persona di questa età abbia la lucidità, nonché la voglia, di scrivere e suonare musica così personale, seppure influenzata da una vita di ispirazioni diverse. Non è il solo (ultrasessantenne lucido), certo, e di questo dobbiamo essere grati. Non c'è niente di trascendentale, eppure, c'è un piacere ulteriore ad ascoltare e a godere di musica rock pop così semplice eppure, fatta di esperienza e passione.
About John William Weller known as Paul (directly from his parents), born 63 years ago in Woking, Surrey, UK (a suburb of London), from working class parents, there is little left to say, or we could talk about him for hours. What comes to mind while listening to his sixteenth solo album is that it is simply a pleasure that a person of this age has the clarity, as well as the desire, to write and play such personal music, albeit influenced by a life of different inspirations. He is not the only one (lucid over 60), of course, and for this we must be grateful. There is nothing transcendental, yet, there is an added pleasure in listening to and enjoying rock and pop music so simple yet, made of experience and passion.
