Eternal Hails...... - Darkthrone (2021)
Diciottesimo album per i norvegesi. imperterriti per la loro strada senza tempo, senza compromessi, senza fronzoli e soprattutto, fedeli alla linea del low fi. Produzione e registrazione volutamente grezza, di bassissima qualità, una filosofia che Fenriz esprime perfettamente nel bel documentario Until the Light Takes Us, del quale parleremo tra un po'. Eppure, il concetto e la musica arrivano, anche oggi a ben 35 anni di distanza dalla loro formazione. Stavolta siamo leggermente più sul versante doom, fermo restando tutti le altre grandi influenze; chiaramente, nonostante citino i Candlemass tra le loro influenze, il doom dei Darkthrone suona più come quello dei Celtic Frost più cupi, ma questa è solo, come detto poc'anzi, una delle varie componenti. Un disco che onora il metal in tutte le sue forme, e che ci mostra i Darkthrone ancora ben lontani dall'essere pensionati.
Eighteenth album for the Norwegians. undeterred on their timeless, uncompromising, no frills way and above all, faithful to the low fi line. Intentionally raw production and recording of very low quality, a philosophy that Fenriz perfectly expresses in the beautiful documentary Until the Light Takes Us, which we will talk about in a while. Yet, the concept and the music arrive, even today 35 years after their formation. This time we are slightly more on the doom side, without prejudice to all the other great influences; clearly, despite mentioning the Candlemass among their influences, the Darkthrone doom sounds more like that of the darker Celtic Frost, but this is only, as mentioned above, one of the various components. A record that honors metal in all its forms, and that shows us the Darkthrone still far from being retired.
