Soberish - Liz Phair (2021)
Settimo album per Elizabeth Clark Phair meglio conosciuta come Liz Phair, una delle colonne portanti del rock alternativo statunitense al femminile, che arriva a distanza di ben undici anni dal precedente Funstyle, ritardato anche dal fatto che il produttore avrebbe dovuto essere stato Ryan Adams, ma nel frattempo ci sono state le accuse di molestie (da parte di altre musiciste), e la Phair ha lasciato perdere la collaborazione. Soberish è un disco semplice e diretto (qualcuno critica l'uso della batteria elettronica, che però si nota appena), dove canzoni piacevoli si abbinano a liriche trasparenti, che riflettono l'indole ribelle ma carica di esperienza di una Liz Phair 54enne, e soprattutto, senza filtri, che riflette appunto, sull'amore, il sesso, l'amicizia e il divertimento a questa (nostra) età.
Seventh album for Elizabeth Clark Phair better known as Liz Phair, one of the mainstays of American female alternative rock, which arrives eleven years after the previous Funstyle, also delayed by the fact that the producer should have been Ryan Adams, but meanwhile there have been allegations of harassment (by other musicians), and Phair has dropped the collaboration. Soberish is a simple and direct record (some criticize the use of electronic drums, which however is barely noticeable), where pleasant songs are combined with transparent lyrics, which reflect the rebellious but experienced nature of a 54-year-old Liz Phair, and above all, without filters, which reflects precisely, on love, sex, friendship and fun at this (our) age.
